[edit] Alternative names

Black Adonis Pleco, Lyretail Pleco, L155

[edit] Sexing

Males may be more spiny than females.

[edit] Tank compatibility

Bottom opportunistic feeder. Dominating territorial species of plec. Best not kept with other plecs at all, they could easily be attacked. Due to their size, more than one of this plec should not be attempted in any less than 1000 US gallons. Larger robust but not aggressive mid to top swimming tank mates should be fine.

[edit] Diet

Not a fussy feeder, will take anything from fruit and vegetables to pellets, frozen or live foods, even pieces of fish.

[edit] Feeding regime

Twice a day.

[edit] Environment Specifics

Very large heavy pieces of bogwood and rocks, no planting as it will get ripped up. Sand is the best substrate for them.

[edit] Behaviour

Aggressive towards other catfish and plecs.

[edit] Identification

Very similar to the Acanthicus adonis but without the white spots. Extended dramatic tail and "spines" the length of the body.
