- Males larger and more colourful than females.
[edit] Breeding
- Substrate spawner, rare to be bred in captivity. Most available are wild caught.
[edit] Tank compatibility
- Only for Lake Tanganyika species tanks and any fish under 3" may be viewed as food.

- Meaty diet, preferring live food, small fish, mysis shrimp, large aquatic insects, crustaceans.

- Twice a day.
[edit] Environment Specifics
- Will not destroy plants, prefers rocky hidey holes and shells can be added also. Sensitive to changes in temperature, so large water changes are not recommended.

- Hunts along the substrate, any fish small enough to eat will be eaten.

- Laterally compressed body (hence the name), sloping forehead and turned up snout. Vertical stripes down the length of the body. White/Blue spots towards the end of the body, more vivid on males.
