Jewel Damsel, Yellowtail Damselfish, Bluespot Damsel

[edit] Sexing

These fish cannot easily be sexed visually and can change sex and are hermaphroditic by nature. Males usually care for the eggs after spawning and these fish have been bred in captivity.

[edit] Tank compatibility

Although relatively peaceful while juvenile, once they mature, they are quiet aggressive fish and should therefore only be kept one to a tank. It can be aggressive towards any other fish tankmates, even those much larger than itself, and is not suitable for a community set up. They are generally not a threat towards corals and invertebrates.

[edit] Diet

The Jewel Damsel will take a variety of meaty and veggie foods including mysid shrimp, brine shrimp and spirulina as well as flake and pellet food.

[edit] Feeding regime

Feed once or twice a day.

[edit] Environment Specifics

These fish must have a spacious tank with plenty of hiding spaces as well as swimming space and they are sensitive to water quality issues.

[edit] Behaviour

An aggressive and territorial fish.

[edit] Identification

When these fish are juvenile they are dark blue/black in base colour with many lighter blue spots. As they mature the spots fade, and may disappear completely, and they will often develop a bright yellow caudal fin.
