It is difficult to sex these fish when juvenile. Older fish will be easier, with the female having more muted colouration and the male developing a nuchal hump.

Tank compatibility

This fish can be territorial, so keep in male/female pairs or singly with similar-sized robust, semi-aggressive fish.
