Sexing

It is difficult to visually sex this fish, although mature females may appear plumper than males.

Tank compatibility

A peaceful Loach that does best in large groups, at least 3 or more. They are very active and should not be kept with shy or territorial fish.

Diet

Will accept most flakes and sinking pellets as well as brine shrimp, daphnia and other live/frozen foods. May occasionally nibble algae.

Feeding regime

Feed once or twice a day.

Environment specifics

This fish must have a sandy, or small gravel, substrate as they will often burrow, and should be provided with plenty of places to hide. They appreciate some current in the tank as they originate from swift-moving hill streams.

Behaviour

An active sociable fish.

Identification

An elongated fish with a mottled grey body and pale belly. It has several barbels around its mouth and its eyes are on the top of its head.
