Identification

A small cyprinid with a deep body shape rather like a silvery tetra. Males are turquoise blue with a distinct black stripe running through the caudal peduncle onto the tail fin; they have a red flash on the top of the iris and red and black bands on the anal fin. Females are similar, but with yellowy fins and less blue on the body. The black band on the caudal peduncle is thinner and runs further forward, well onto the back half of the flank.
