Tank compatibility[edit]

Rainbow Shiners are active shoaling fish that should be kept in a group of at least 6 or more. They are peaceful and can be kept with other fish that don't mind the same environment as these fish.

Identification[edit]

Elongate, streamlined minnow noted for its iridescent colours. Outside of breeding, the fish have pinkish bodies with a bright golden band along the midline of the flank from behind the operculum to the base of the tail fin. The dorsal, anal and pelvic fins are marked with red or orange blotches. During the breeding season the males develop a purple band above the midline band and shiny blue band below it.
